Rectal Prolapse Treatment at Dr Eleri’s Piles & Fistula Clinic
What is Rectal Prolapse?
Rectal prolapse is a condition in which the rectum (the last part of the large intestine) slips or protrudes outside the anus. It may occur during bowel movements at first, but over time it can become more frequent or even permanent.
This condition affects both men and women but is more common in older adults, people with chronic constipation, and women after multiple childbirths.
Causes
- Chronic constipation or straining during bowel movements
- Weak pelvic floor muscles
- Previous anorectal surgeries or injuries
- Neurological conditions that affect bowel control
- Aging, which weakens the supporting tissues of the rectum
Symptoms
- A visible bulge or protrusion from the anus, especially after straining
- Difficulty controlling bowel movements (fecal incontinence)
- Mucus or blood discharge
- A feeling of incomplete evacuation after passing stool
- Pain or discomfort in advanced cases
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is usually made through a physical examination by a specialist. In some cases, additional tests like colonoscopy or defecography may be recommended to rule out other conditions.
Our Ayurvedic Approach at Dreleris Clinic
Modern surgical treatments for rectal prolapse (like rectopexy, perineal repair, or resection) often require hospitalization, carry risks, and may not always prevent recurrence.
At Dreleris Clinic, we follow a comprehensive Ayurvedic approach combining:
- Oral Ayurvedic medicines – to strengthen digestion, regulate bowel habits, and reduce strain.
- Kshara Karma therapy – for localized treatment to shrink and heal tissues.
- Basti (medicated enema) – to strengthen rectal muscles and restore normal function.
- Diet and lifestyle guidance – to prevent recurrence and maintain bowel regularity.
Recovery & Benefits
- Minimally invasive daycare procedures, performed under local anesthesia
- Faster healing with minimal discomfort
- Low risk of complications compared to conventional surgery
- Restores bowel function and prevents recurrence naturally
- Patients can resume normal activities within a few days
At Dreleris Clinic, we are dedicated to offering safe, holistic, and long-lasting solutions for rectal prolapse, combining the wisdom of Ayurveda with modern anorectal care.
